Desert Tortoise Council
The Desert Tortoise Council (henceforth known as the Council) is a non-profit organization comprised of hundreds of professionals and laypersons who share a common concern for, and a commitment to advancing the public’s understanding of, wild desert tortoises in the southwestern United States and Mexico. Established in 1975, the Council’s mission is to assure the perpetual survival of viable populations of desert tortoises represented throughout their historical range. The intended broader audience would include any persons, organizations or companies that are living near, visiting, or operating in and around the Mojave Desert to the north and west of the Colorado River.
